Two dead in fiery crash on I-75

On Thursday, June 30, 2022, Troopers from GSP Post 3 Cartersville were dispatched to a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 South near mile marker 293, in Bartow County. The investigation determined that an unknown color tractor-trailer, a blue tractor-trailer, and a white tractor-trailer were all traveling south on Interstate 75. A box truck and a blue passenger car were also traveling south.

As traffic began to slow, the front of the unknown color tractor-trailer struck the rear of the blue tractor-trailer, causing the front of the blue tractor-trailer to strike the rear of the white tractor-trailer.

Upon impact, the unknown tractor-color trailer became engulfed in flames. The unknown color tractor-trailer traveled into the middle lane, striking the rear of the box truck, causing the front of the box truck to strike the rear of the blue passenger car.

The driver of the unknown color tractor-trailer along with the passenger of the blue tractor-trailer was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the blue tractor-trailer was transported to Kennestone Wellstar by EMS. 

None of the driver’s identities have been disclosed at the time of this report.

The Georgia State Patrol Troop A Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating this crash.

All three lanes of I-75 southbound are shut down in Bartow County near milepost 292 due to a wreck involving three tractor-trailers. The wreck and resulting fire damaged the asphalt on all three lanes. Crews will resurface the damaged section this evening. All lanes should reopen early Friday morning.
